Dirty Girls: Our Favorite Look from NYFW 2015

Of all the amazing hair & make-up trends we’ve seen out of this season’s #NYFW (artful liners, bold lips, modern chignons, stocking caps, etc.), we must pay tribute to our favorite runway look of 2015 – dirty, greasy, matted, Riot Grrrl hair reminiscent of Patti Smith and Kathleen Hanna stomping down the runway. Here are our favorite Dirty Girl styles of 2015:

1. Zac Posen 2015

This ‘wet’ look is a less shower-inspired than it is greasy.

2. Alexander Wang 2015

3. Thakoon

A bit of a softer look – oily roots with loose ends, Thakoon presents a more romantic version of this trend.

4. Badgley Mishka

Punk rock Little Mermaid – this seapunk trend is an edgier approach to spring hues.

5. Rodarte 2015

Ok, not quite a dirty hair look, but we think these pierced eyebrows are Riot Grrrl approved.

Want to create a street-ready, wearable version of this trend? Stylist William Schaedler recommends oils and tacky creams at the root to create texture. The finer the hair, the less product you can use. Remember, you can always add product so start with a small amount! From there, you can decide how much product you need in order to achieve the perfect Dirty Girl look. Row A tip: To really play up this trend, William suggests flat ironing the root and middle of the hair, and leaving the ends more natural.

Try Keihl’s Creative Cream Wax (get it here) and Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum (here) to get this look. If you’re feeling exotic, try Tulsi Hair Oil instead. Bonus: it makes your hair grow!
